i turned 21 years of age on monday. i don't feel any different, i know there is more responsibility blah blah blah now, but i do feel slightly richer. £500 cheque from my great aunt and uncle in the Isle of Man. brilliant.

i'm eating biscuits for breakfast, with some apple juice, and listening to a stupid English Dialect tape. an interview tape of folk from different parts of the UK. i chose to study the Northumberland method of pronunciation.

it's crap. proper crap. fuck uni, it's crap!

crap?!!!?!

fuck off pumps!

today i got a copy of the new The Music album, Welcome to the North. haha, it's suprisingly ace. produced by Brendan OBrien, who produced, off the top of my head, Superunknown, a couple of Korn albums and some more stuff, yeah.
it's good so far, i'm into track 7, too much open hi-hat, closed hi-hat japerery from the drummer, too much like the stone roses in that retrospect, but the songs are great, a step in the right direction for them, the first was, by all acounts a little all over the place, but this one shows a lot of promise in terms of direction and focus.

anyway fuck this, there is relaxing to be done.

also bought Swingers and Love & Death on DVD and a Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks album for £2.

safe.

way hey! i got back into uni, another year of dossing my life away at Salford's finest educational establishment.

fantastic, it's been a pretty bloody good weekend. Bolton made a fantastic point away to rightful champions Arsenal. had work, talked a lot of bobbins with the good folk Kristian, Alan, Phil, Avis, John, Alison, Holly and paul. oh aye. proper good folk.
lets go back to friday night, i played football for a good 1.45 hours (haha) from 8pm. got in at about 9:50 and went online, surfed on down to some rock club message board and saw a picture of Tony Iommi proping up the bar, i had to get down there, fuck the shower. found a very close parking space and payed a meagre £3 entrance, got up the stairs to find a god awful band playing, fucking bullshit, Mr Iommi had gone, ah well, still had a great non-alcoholic night, the singer from hell is for heroes (a real short arse, hah) played some pretty decent tunes, some songs i thought i'd never hear in satans (and you will....trail of dead, tool blahdy blah), i had a laugh with the guys and went home about 2. got up for the football, then went to work.

today was alright, working 12-6, saw some good people again, did as little as possible again, yeah, came home and watched Europe crush America in the Ryder Cup. fucking ave it. you poncey yank b'stards. you were funking rubbish.

good night,

the weekend.

the weekend just been was brilliant. it started on wednesday night, going round to Mike's house to pre-roll our spliffs (the most un rock and roll thing i've ever done) and watch extended highlights of Bolton Wanderers' spiffing 2-1 at manager-less Southampton, it was damn good, Henrik Pedersen and Jay Jay Okocha from the penalty spot sealed the win by half time, The Saints never threatend, a late consolation goal from Peter-6feet7-Crouch (naturally a headed goal) did nothing to soften the blow. at midnight after a couple of episodes of Seinfeld we said our goodbyes and arranged to meet in the morning in south Didsbury. so myself and chum Andy (who i will refer to as Afro from now on in) went home to sleep, on the way we got a shit pizza from the canadian charcoal pit in Withington.
rise and shine on thursday 26th august (fuck, i've just realised that was my Oma's birthday and i forgot a phone call and card, fucking useless selfish bastard)

temporarily lost my train of thought. crap.
ah yes, morning, so, everything is packed and we set off for the short trip to Mike's. he overslept. oh yeah, hah, we pick Carpet up after getting lost down Burton Road in Withington. but yeah, with Carpet on board we set off (afer agreeing with the energy sapped Mike to meet up later, but as soon as possible, in Oldham) to Martin and Dave's road in Shaw.
now, if Carpet hadn't watch Channel M news the night before we may have got caught up in delayed traffic on the east manchester section of the M60. but no, we made the decision to go right around manchester west bound, past the trafford centre up to the top of Shaw (junction 21) and then into Shaw, 25 minutes, peice of piss.
we got there and waited, and waited. waited more. we left at 12 after arriving at 10am. gutted.

getting to the site was tricky, i need a wee so desperately it started to hurt, Afro and Carpet laughed, we were attacked outside a sainsburys by a wasp that flew in my (driver) window and landed on my lap, buzzed around a bit and landed on my half open window, i asked for something to squish it with (rather hysterically no doubt), Carpet handed me a sandwhich packet, it worked, but only after a mammoth fight, it got caught up inside and didn't die.
i digress........
we arrived and pitched tent, i celebrated with a can of cold (cool bag genius) Kronny 1664 and a spliff.
i was on my own in a 3 man tent, parked between mackle and carpet in a 2 man and Afro in a 3 man. bad maths. but i wanted some privacy.
can't remember much of that night, did mackle break his tent with an almighty stumble (aided by a few drinks) that night or later on? fuck knows.
the next morning i ate some tinned shit from heinz and a couple of cans of the 5% french juice.
went to see The Futureheads first, EXCELLENT stuff, only they didn't play A to B. but nevermind, everyone who i dragged to see these fucked off to watch Your Code Name is Milo, they regretted it, i knew they would, arf arf. we headed for the massive carling signs by the far side of the main stage and bought BEEERS. we sat down and listened to The Rasmus and Dropkick Murphys, both of whom failled to impress my head. then there was a long wait for SKINNER to enter the arena. he didn't disappoint. 5th time. (4th at a festival though, eh?????? madness) madness, fucking mint tunes and mint times. rocking i was, proper dancin, givin it some. m'oh yeah, i don't fuck about me.
sorry to document my every move here, but i feel i'll look back on this after next year and make a hearty comparrison.
back to the tent, i had little desire to see Placebo or 50pence.
back to the arena, Mike Patton time. the majority of the audience were there for Rahzel, i really did not realise he was so popular this side of the pond. it was good, a bit too much in parts, Patton playing second fiddle to the motionless Rahzel, who stood and let his voice do the noises. Patton fucked about with his gadets making obsenely (sp) silly noises that only he know how. rahzel stood and pounded into the mic with his huge viocebox.
the set ended with the famous rendition of If Your Mother Only Knew, and boy, if only the WORLD knew. fucking hell. spellbinding, i was lucky enough to be close enough to see his jaws working away as he spat out the noises. fucking madness, and pure intimidation. he took the piss.
night time, no fires, fucking bastards. no fun, all cold. did what we could (drank and got loud) but the night ended early and fairly subdued.
next morning we watched The International Noise Conspiricy, who rocked. good shit, then stook around for Modest Mouse who sucked, big time, big cock. then The Wildhearts who were good honest upfront Rock and Roll. good shit, Mackle loved it. and from the back i'm in no doubt that Nat loved it all too. oh aye. good band. to the mainstage. The Hives. quality stuff, very good sounding (suprisingly) and very funny front man (as if you didn't know this) Put your noodles in your pocket and dance.
The Darkness were piss poor, i mean, i love the songs, but the drummer, i have utter UTTER contempt for the drummer, fuck Bush, HE is the most evil man alive. fucking lightweight bastard, couldn't drum in time or do a fucking good fill to save his soul.
The next morning i awoke strangely early, before everyone else, and had some soup, it was just what the doctor hotdog ordered. at about 2 we left for The Icarus Line, who were good, still raw and bitter, but not all that hard to swallow. then Har Mar Superstar, who was a bt shit in all honesty. then back to the campsite i went (with a cider, why not?)
i listened to Bolton TROUNCE Liverpool 1-0. good good shit, took a phone call from my dad who'd been to the game and then got ready for !!! and then The Dillinger Escape Plan. spectacular is the only word. they are one of the best bands going, easily. everytime i see them perform it's brilliant, and all this HOO HAR from their 'hardcore' (note, elite) fanbase who scrawl at the fact that they are due to play a UK tour for the 5th time in a year is UTTER TRIPE, i'm glad to see them back, and in Manchester again, i'll be getting a ticket for sure. fucking marvellous.
the next morning we packed up and set off for Manchester, stopping on an M62 service station for a decent meal and contemplation. it was grand, back into Manchester by about 2pm. dropped Afro off in Urmston in the PISSSING rain, then back to Mike's for some Pro ev action all night, then i split from the gang at about 8 and went round to Sallys. we watched The Shawshank Redemption in bed and then fell asleep. mint. i was tired, i had to be up far too bright and early to remove my car from it's overnight single yellow line spot before 8AM.
went back to my bed, cleared all that camping shit off it and enjoyed a snooze in bed with a brew and a paper.

bye! and thanks for reading! (as if, haha,)

pimps

alright you pimps. i've gone through all the clothing, sorted those that are surplus to requirements and are going in a bin bag to the local oxfan. all nice and ironed (i'm good like that). i hope that all my clothes find good homes within this great city, they will, they are chock full of style.

today i went a little daft with the old Barclays connect. silly, £22 in fopp and £15 in H&M.
becuase i'm good i bought Manhunter on DVD and Belleville Rendez-Vous also on the DVD format. £7 and £10 respectivly. and then £5 on Pauls Boutique by the beat-sie boys

then in H&M i bought a silly vest and a quaint little purple jumper. very queer indeed. but nice.

Bolton beat Charlton 4-1 at the weekend, hah, it was such an entertaining game from a Bolton point of view. Jay Jay was on fire, and Henrik Pedersen, usually the butt of all my jibes, was a prancing dancing flaming inferno, scoring 2 goals each in what was a very one sided affair.
sports journalism, easy, foot in the door though, argh! such a harsh world.

bad news!

today i left work with a full pack of rich tea biscuits on the roof (i'd left them there like a spazz), did a swift bit of reversing and heard them roll across the roof and hit the deck on the passenger's side.
so i got them home and about 20 minutes started to eat them with a cup of tea.
the first 5 were all in a minimum of 3 pieces,
but as i get towards the centre of the pack (and more bloated, this is my second brew) they are all in 2 peices, and 1 even had the gaul to be full and undamaged. you'd have thought i'd enjoy this whole one more, i've been accustomed to these my whole life, but the temporary situation of the biscuits coming all broken and smashed made it less enjoyable than a half one as i find i can fully dip in the brew and get my fingers wet, making the experience that little more enjoyable. like the sand in the middle of a hula hoop, or from the house i come from a 'hoopsucker' no, 'hudswinger'

funny that.

knickers.

i'm not goin to Leeds tonigh, to see a gig. truth be told i'm not THAT arsed. Pelican aren't as inspirationally brilliant as every fucker makes out. sure it's damn good, but they are no Radiohead, or Beck, or PFloyd, or Oceansize (no, really). so yeah, i'm a little let down with myself, but not overly annoyed. fuck it. it's only a gig. i've got a CD, it's great, a gig will finish, then i'll drive home in the dark for an hour with ringing ears. CD's are recyclable and available on request. yeah, i'm sure i'll get loads of feedback about how amazingly sublime the band were. yeah, not at all on auto-pilot doin the same shit every night for the 'mesmorized' british gullibles. sour grapes (ish) but really, missing gigs doesn't bother me as much as it used to.

work stinks. thursday and friday just gone i felt like shit, i'd never had worse B.O than that ever (made me even more desireable, haha) and i'm tired as fuck.

it's my last week of full time work soon comencing. jesus i can't wait till its over, i'm due 3 weeks work in 1 lump some next friday, roughly £650. cushty/kusthy. whatever.

i've stole a few CD's from my mum and dad over the past two weeks. all mint. it helps having loads of choise, i'm getting a bit bored of my music, so i thought i'd go on a robbing spree. got the following:
Coldplay - Parachutes (dad)
HitchHikers Guide To The Galaxy - 5 CD set. brilliant, truly brilliant. (mum)
Rachels - systems layers (dad)
Mono - Under The Pipal Tree (dad)
Steely Dan - Best Of (mum)
Todd Rundgren - something anything (dad)
Prince - singles 3 cd set (mum)
Focus - Hamburger Concerto (dad)
Focus - 3 (dad)
Bill Hicks - Relentless (dad)
The Beta Band - 3 Eps (dad)
The Avalanches - Since I Left You (dad)

get in. time for rest, peace, sanctuary.

an awesome night.

great fucking stuff. so i got pissed and went to satans, saw all the good folk i see. it's mint, Kramer, Tony, Mackle, Carpet, a few others i see not so often, ella, nathan, others. met Phil and spoke deeply about Pearl Jam's history. mint. anyhow. i went home, on the 86 night service, i realised it would be a bit of a mission walk from Chorlton town centre back to my house, but was prepared, only £2 too (whole night cost merely £6 - cool) which was nice. aaaaanyway, got on the bus at 1:45am on withworth street opposite the NCP car park. asked the driver to take me to Chorlton and i overhear the words 'woah, landers woah'
Landers immediatly strikes a chord, only 2 or 3 people in the world call me that, so i turn around to see who called it out, and it's an old friend from my time at South Trafford College Alex Perry. amazing stuff, so we get talking and i learn a lot about what he's been up to, tell him whats been goin down in my life. tonight i was drunk, he was diddlin (pills). but i have no beef with that. he tells me about his time shooting I AM KLOOT live at the ritz and night&day cafe, and making a music video for them with Chris Eccleston, all facinating stuff, we get along, talk for AAAAAGES, (by this time we are off the bus in chorlton walking towards Kings Road where there is a mass party).
so we get to that party, its ace, pallets are burning hot and bright in the back yard, a DJ is spinning some mind boggling ace Drum n Bass. funky beats. yeah, we chill in the back garden for a bit, Al and his girl drop another pill, i pass explaining my current working predicament, he sympathises. i wander round for a bit, talk to some people about crap. talk more, see folk, smoke a few spliffs with people. then it's time to go. time to walk some more back to this flea pit. i say my goodbyes to Al. tell him i'll buzz him soon, although i can't give him my mobile number cos his is out of battery. we part. i walk with a smile and get home. make 2 cheese and tomato baps and start to type this.
now its time for bed, i'll phone Al when i get the chance in the next few days, give him time to recover from a hard weekends partying. hah. awesome.

how i love coincidental meetings. what ripe new rewards can be reaped.

yeah, as i entered the parlour de satan last night the song playing was Mastodon, March of the Fire Ants. hah, so i gave it a little air guitar as i approached the dance circle. now me being me, i don't look like a metal fan, i was in a brown cordrouy jacket (courtesy my father circa 1970) and sand coloured jeans, an Ozomatli t-shirt and properly shit short brown hair.

as i walked towards the floor givin it some (probably some daft facial expression too) and some idiot stopped me and gestured to come toward him, i did, he asked me

d'you know who this is?

fucking ignorant elistist prick, as if i don't know whose music i enjoy and who i don't. the fucker wanted to embarrass me and make me feel small. haha, the tables turned when i replied:

Mastodon, you prick

idiots, why does the world have them? why do we put up with them?

what is his method of thought? he was in a black cephelic carnage shirt and looked like a dirty fucking metal head bastard, long(ish) hair and ugly. poor idiot.

yeah, world full of dicks. i hope that one dies.

today i verballly handed my notice in at work, winner.
heavy German bastards, i love the Hop and Grape, Goths are funny things aren't they, i gazed around the room, wierd thoughts floateda round. like they'd never be accepted at anything, anywhere, so they stick together in clans, at gigs, funerals, grotty shopping buildings for the local freak kids, the internet. man, dancing away to one of the shittest musical adventures i've ever seen in manchester. they were called Panic D H H and were insipid in their delivery. just noise, no structure, pure white screeching sustained bullshit, hard on the ears, too hard. fucking ingrates.
KMFDM are a different jar of honey all together, they are togetherness. polished and honed, they lash out their anthems one by one with deep aplomb. the crowd was subdued, but that was to be expected, 20 years old and 18 albums in and this is the first time they hit Manchester, sheesh, who knew what to expect?
this band sounded 40 times better playing live over a recording in a studio. the drummer is special, the pulse that leads the way, guitarists precise and acomplished, and the two singers a bit tame. yeah, thats right, tame. never quite winning over the audience (bare in mind most of the audience is already endowed with a knowledge of their songs, but not their live show). luscious vocalist Lucia was a fresh of breath air amongst all the hideous women in black tonight. she is the epitome of what female goths should look like. oh aye, a treat of a lady. her yelp? yeap, loud and screetching. lead singer Sacha (he IS KMFDM) looked like he'd just stepped off a helicopter in kuwait circa 1991, only he's german. silly aviator shades and a good mohawk, he sneers at the crowd as he resights the words to their aural onslaught. the gig was literally that, an onslaught, crushing riffs and beats, with nice samples and angsty spat lyrics.
i can't really sum up their exploits any more than that. not a life changing gig, not a career defining moment, just a fun of the mill gig, something they've been doing for years, but never with the proper financial backing (so they inform us on the beautiful webspace) to tour europe more often.
Sacha said they'd be back (not quite eclipsing their current govenor's famous one liner) with a wave and a wry grin, but when, how long will we have to wait again before you rip our ears to sheds?
